Tribute to the fans
We entered the dark dancefloor of the Electric Ballroom with other three 'fans' from Barcelona. Shirley Manson introduced herself, ironically. She was incredibly warm to all of us, as were the other members of the band (the drummer had a broken leg so there was just 3 of them on stage).

I don't meet rock stars that very often so i was truly impressed by the 'no frills' attitude of Shirley. She was funny, joking, talkative.

She complimented my top and Tom's t-shirt, she went on about how streetwise she found Spanish people and she explained that the concert was going to be a 'tribute to the fans': More songs from the earlier records, a couple of sides B, a gig in a smaller than usual venue...

It was fun to meet the band. It was cool to feel like a semigroupie. I could get used to that way of life.

The people from Barcelona who had also won the competition were a lot like Tom and i so we got on well. We left the Ballroom to have a snack, drink pints and discuss music, cinema and Amsterdam.
