41
"We would have been married 41 years today", she said, biting her lower lip for a split second. I smiled and raised my eyebrows. Then i thought about it under a new perspective and i told her: "Well, it's good the way things are, otherwise you might have said you've been unhappy for nearly 41 years, mum".

We were sitting under the magnolia trees near the town hall, drinking iced tea and watching preteens play with water pistols. Baby was out of his stroller, sitting on my lap, not crying. We changed the subject without even noticing.

This morning, it came back. For a split second.
